１年と１日後の石巻。(ISHINOMAKI a year and a day later)
2012年 03月 12日
I had started out for ISHINOMAKI, 2 get there by noon. But the time I arrived was around 15. I was late cause I tried 2 get tire chains 2 drive safe on snow. I even got off from the highway once 2 visit a car shop, but they didn't have it.
Luckily, on the phone I knew the condition of the road turned out 2 b safe. But some traffic jam also bothered me.
I supposed 2 work as a volunteer at a local music shop. The shop master welcomed me when I got there. He looked so nice and friendly. And shortly after, the work began.
The work I did was to help displaying the dolls for the Boy's Festival. In Japan, the Boy's Festival is one of the most important ceremony in spring. It would sound weird what I helped was displaying the dolls, but I guess to deal with toys as well as instruments is not so strange for a local music shop.
The workers there told me how they attacked by big earthquake and TSUNAMI on 311 last year. It was just after the dolls had been diplayed. Year the dolls were fallen off from the stage, glass windows were broken, and the TSUNAMI attacked the 1st floor of the shop and drifted many things in and out (The dolls were set on the second floor so they were almost safe). It was in such a chaos on that day.
Suddenly, in the middle of the serious story, one of the workers there relieved me a bit with a joke. He said it smiling "Why don't U move here b4 TOKYO will b attacked. TOKYO's turn will b the next, It's said that the quake of that large happens only once in thousand years" .
I laughed at the joke but several hours later I was kinda forced 2 b serious again. After the work, I visited HIYORIYAMA-PARK located in higher place where I could see the damaged area at one time. The area is around the mouth of KITAKAMI-RIVER.
Well, when I saw the view, I swallowed my breath.
I'd dare to use the expression "everyghing was gone" instead of "nothing was there". Yeah, I'm sure there use 2 B something, like houses, schools, shops, people's daily lives and their smiles. But now, they are all gone….
Yes a year has passed, but still I could see ships left behind drifted up on the river bank and the damaged cars were piled up high on the shore.
The only positive thing was the nightlife there. The place I drunk was so clouded and so vital. I hope it's not just because it was Monday's night and the few bars opened were like "son of a gun" places for the customers. But if it is, I still believe it is positive .
Seemed to me people in ISHINOMAKI regaining their toughness slowly but surely. They are re-building there city right now.
Well, 2morrow I'm supposed 2 work all day. Hopefully I would help to get the dolls displayed as soon as possible, to make people there restore their smiles.
